Unplug and unwind: Reading in nature

Let’s face it, our lives can feel pretty ordinary sometimes. Stuck in routines, the days blur together. But what if i told you there’s a simple way to inject a touch of magic into your everyday?

We’re talking about channeling our inner main character with a literary picnic adventure.

Imagine this: Sun dappling through the leaves, a gentle breeze carrying the scent of wildflowers, and a captivating story unfolding in your hands. This isn’t just a picnic; it’s a portal to another world. Pack a basket brimming with delicious treats (think finger foods that won’t stain your precious pages!), your favorite book, and a thirst for adventure.

First step, pick your setting:

The Park Escape:  A sprawling park with a designated picnic area is a classic choice. Find a shady spot under a tree, spread out your blanket, and get lost in your book. Bonus points if there’s a babbling brook nearby for an extra dose of serenity.
The Beach Bonanza: The sound of waves crashing against the shore is the ultimate white noise machine. Pitch your blanket on the sand, feel the warm sun on your skin, and let the salty air turn the pages of your adventure.

The Secret Garden:  Do you have a hidden gem near you – a secluded meadow, a forgotten forest path?  These off-the-beaten-track locations offer a sense of discovery and a unique reading experience.

Become the main character of Your Own Story:

Don’t just read the adventure, live it! As you delve into the story, take breaks to explore your surroundings. Is your book set in a mystical forest? See if you can find any interesting mushrooms or identify different types of trees. Is your protagonist a skilled detective? Pretend to solve a “mystery” of your own – maybe it’s identifying a bird by its song or following a fascinating insect on its journey.

Beyond the Book:

Pack a Themed Snack: Let your picnic menu reflect the world of your book. Is it a historical fiction novel? Pack some finger foods from the time period. Is it a fantasy adventure? Pack some  delicious treats like sliced fruits and berries. Don’t forget a refreshing drink, you could have an iced coffee, lemonade or even a glass of wine.

Soundtrack Your Escape: Create a playlist that complements the mood of your book. Upbeat music for a fast-paced adventure, calming melodies for a more introspective story. If you don’t have time you can just search the genre/ book into Spotify someone probably has made a playlist already.

Embrace the Unexpected: Sometimes, nature throws its own curveballs. A sudden rain shower can become a chance to build a makeshift shelter (think “Robinson Crusoe”) or a playful chase under the drops can add a dash of excitement.

Remember, the most important ingredient for this adventure is YOU.

So grab your book, pack your basket, and step outside. The world is your literary playground, waiting to be explored. With a little imagination, you can transform your picnic into an unforgettable escape, proving that even the most ordinary day can be extraordinary.
