This book was gifted as part of a Tandem Collective readalong. The Tandem Collective’s readalongs always create a sense of excitement and community, and this one was no exception. All thoughts are my own, and this being part of this readalong truly enriched my reading journey.

The Eyes Are the Best Part is a feminist psychological horror novel from a Korean-American perspective. Ji-won’s life falls apart after her father leaves due to an affair. Her dreams become horrifying but intriguing, and she envisions walking through bloody rooms full of familiar blue eyes. She is determined to protect her family from her mother’s obnoxious new boyfriend, George. Despite the accumulating victims around her campus, Ji-won feels a hunger and rage that she believes deserve to be satisfied. The novel tells the story of a family trying to come back together amidst the unraveling of a young woman. It is an inventive and subversive work by Monika Kim, offering a bold new voice in horror literature. I will be reading more from Monika Kim in the future.

Review
I will be reading more from Monika Kim in the future. The writing was not only descriptive and painting vivid images in my mind. The story did not go in the direction i expected and i was shocked by how the story unfolded!

P.S I might not be able to eat a cherry tomato again as long as I live.
